HAZELNUTS
Common Hazel is cultivated for its nuts in commercial orchards in Europe, Turkey, Iran and the Caucasus. The name "hazelnut" applies to the nuts of any of the species of the genus Corylus. This hazelnut or cobnut, the kernel of the seed, is edible and used raw or roasted, or ground into a paste. The top producer of hazelnuts, by a wide margin, is Turkey, specifically the Ordu Province. Turkish hazelnut production accounts for approximately 75% of worldwide production and it is from Turkey that Western Commodities source the finest quality organic hazelnuts from a prestigious packer.
Hazelnut and hazelnut oil is one of the best known sources for Vitamin E, which is essential for healthy heart and other muscles. It is also necessary for normal functioning of the reproduction system. Vitamin E prevents the disintegration of red blood cells, thus it serves as a protection against amenia. Hazelnuts are also one of the few nuts that contain vitamin A, a natural antioxidant that has cancer-preventing properties.
